Renée Abbott
Renée Abbott is a fourth-year journalism and criminal justice combined major. Abbott grew up in Walpole, Massachusetts and is involved with No Limits Dance Crew at Northeastern University. In the past, she has served as audiovisual editor for The Huntington News and worked in the communications department of the Northeastern Sustainability Hub. She recently finished her co-op at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office in the Medicaid Fraud Division. Outside of work and school, Abbott loves reading, traveling, and spending time with friends. |
Jenica Ashby
Jenica Ashby is a third-year economics and journalism combined major. She has an affinity for storytelling, especially through video and the post-production process. She strives to take complicated stories and transform them into their most digestible and interesting forms. After her involvement in the research and writing of several reports for Commonwealth, a national nonprofit for financial security, she hopes to continue to retell the stories of the financially vulnerable. In her free time, she enjoys making video blogs and riding her bike. |
Theodore Babbitt
Theodore Babbitt is a fourth-year journalism and international affairs combined major with a minor in political science. He is interested in developing the intersection between the above topics through academic writing, global reporting, visual storytelling and data journalism. In addition to being an editor for Northeastern University’s Global Journal, Theodore completed his first co-op as an Editorial and Project Coordination Assistant for Harvard Health Publishing. He recently started his second co-op as an Editorial Intern and Program Assistant for the Signs Journal and WGSS Program at Northeastern University. During his free time, Theodore enjoys reading, taking photos, learning languages, and playing with his cat. |
Henry Bova
Henry Bova is a fourth-year journalism major with minors in history and math at Northeastern University. He is most interested in arts, culture, and lifestyle reporting with a quirky human interest angle. In addition to serving as editor-in-chief at Northeastern’s student-run Tastemakers Music Magazine, he worked at the Boston Globe, writing stories daily for the Living/Arts section, and continues to freelance for the paper today. In his free time, Henry enjoys playing bass, watching baseball, and biking. |
Lawrence Brown
Lawrence Brown is a third-year journalism and media and screen studies combined major. He loves going out in the world to tell stories, working with cameras, and being on camera to report. He previously worked at 7 News WHDH-TV in Boston and currently serves as an executive producer for Northeastern Television (NUTV). He has also written several stories for The Huntington News. Lawrence’s goal is to tell an important story with great visuals from all around Peru. During his free time, he loves going on walks, exploring cities, and reading and watching Bridgerton. |
Celena Budd
Celena Budd is an aspiring broadcast journalist with a passion for multimedia storytelling and communication. She is currently in her third year pursuing a degree in journalism & media and screen studies. Always a lover of video production, Celena is passionate about telling engaging human interest stories infused with unique flair. She grew up in Tewksbury, New Jersey, but currently lives in South Florida. At Northeastern, Celena is an active member of NUTV, writes for the school’s athletic publication, and is the Vice President of Cheese Club. She just completed her first co-op at WBZ | CBS News Boston, where she used her love for communication to give others the voice and light they deserve. In her free time, she enjoys biking and writing movie reviews.
Sonel Cutler
Sonel Cutler is a fourth-year journalism and political science combined major from Falls Church, Virginia. She currently serves as the editor-in-chief of The Huntington News, Northeastern’s independent student newspaper. Sonel has previously covered issues at colleges and universities nationally for The Chronicle of Higher Education and news in metro Boston for the Boston Globe. She is especially interested in higher education and its intersections with policy. In her free time, you can find Sonel baking, doing crossword puzzles, or hiking in West Virginia. |
Isabelle Elenes
Isabelle Elenes is a fourth-year environmental and sustainability sciences major. She is interested in environmental policy and holistic sustainable practices. Isabelle is actively involved in the Boston Health Initiative and previously interned at Boston Public Schools in the Division of Equity, Strategy, and Opportunity Gaps. She is also interested in documenting environmental issues and uncovering the perspectives of different stakeholders. During her free time, Isabelle loves to write and draw. |
Hannah Escandon
Hannah Escandon is a fourth-year journalism and international affairs combined major, with an interest in breaking stereotypes and accurately representing people around the world through documentary film. She is currently a student researcher and news producer for the Reinventing Local TV News Research Project, working with the WCBS-TV New York team. In 2024, she was awarded two Student Emmys from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for her documentary work. Additionally, she has published articles and produced videos for the Baha’i International Community’s United Nations Office. After graduation, her goal is to continue reporting abroad, uplifting the voices of overlooked communities and covering the impacts of conflict. |
Sofia Garrett
Sofia Garrett is a third-year journalism and media and screen studies combined major from Ridgefield, CT. In addition to being the sports editor for The Huntington News, she has recently worked on the sports desk of the Boston Globe and will be returning part-time in the fall. Last summer, Sofia teamed up with a group of Northeastern students, serving as the main editor and writer, to create a documentary about women’s football in London, England. In the future, she hopes to highlight more compelling stories through video production. Sofia is a member of the Northeastern University Dance Company, NUDANCO, and she enjoys watching tennis and discovering new music in her free time. |
Annika Geiben Lynn
Annika Geiben Lynn is a third-year journalism and criminal justice honors student from New Hampshire. She is drawn to journalism given her curiosity for the world around her and the opportunity to always learn something new. She is most interested in covering topics in metro breaking news and sports. At Northeastern, Annika writes as a news correspondent for The Huntington News and does color commentary for WRBB Sports Radio. Most recently, Annika worked as a Production Assistant at Boston City TV, helping to televise the mayor’s press conferences and local events. In the future, she hopes to work in broadcast journalism as a television anchor in a big city. In her free time, Annika can be found cheering at Boston sports games or at the lake with her family. |
Lila Hempel-Edgers
Lila Hempel-Edgers is a fourth-year journalism and criminal justice combined major. With an interest in the intersection between mental health and modern media, she continues to report on the rapidly evolving field of journalism and the technology that accompanies it. Along with contributing to several student publications and hosting a radio show on WRBB, Lila recently spent six months covering everything from student encampments to whale sightings for the Boston Globe. During her free time, Lila enjoys spending time with her dog and exploring the East Coast. |
Kylee Hendrie
Kylee Hendrie is a fifth-year journalism and media and screen studies student with a focus in environmental video journalism. A triple student Emmy winner, she co-directed three PSAs in Vietnam to deter illegal wildlife trafficking, reaching 14 million viewers, and is currently producing a documentary for the United Nations on the international plastics treaty. She’s been involved in the OTT Reporting Project, Out & About Project, MAP48, Wayfair, and The Policy School (SPPUA). She’s published in The Scope and designed Columbia Press award-winning magazines. In her free time, she enjoys squash (the sport, not the vegetable), film photography, oil painting, collecting small trinkets, and hanging out with her 17 turtles. |
Meghan Hirsch
Meghan Hirsch is a fourth-year history and media and screen studies combined major from Maine. She is most interested in conveying how the past shapes our current world through multimedia pursuits. At Northeastern, she enjoys hosting radio shows with WRBB and writing and creating audiovisual content for The Huntington News. She’s worked for IFC Films in New York, and most recently at WGBH in production on the Forum Network Team. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, and sitting in parks. |
Nikkia Jean-Charles
Nikkia Jean-Charles is a Haitian American fourth-year journalism major with a minor in video arts. Born and raised in Boston, as a manifestation of living in a diverse environment, she is fond of highlighting stories about different cultural experiences, health care, politics, and technology. She enjoys combining different mediums including photography, graphic design, animation, and videography to produce impactful stories. With a passion for investigative reporting and storytelling, she was awarded the NAACP ACT-SO Finalist in Filmmaking and recently worked as a general assignment reporter for The Scope. With an aspiration for global reporting, she hopes to continue using different multimedia techniques to compel pivotal storytelling of local communities. During her free time, you can find her watching documentaries or basketball, listening to wellness podcasts or cooking new recipes. |
Aoife Jeffries
Aoife Jeffries is a second-year combined behavioral neuroscience and data science major with a minor in journalism practice. She is a writer and editor for Northeastern’s NU Sci magazine, and she enjoys reporting on new scientific discoveries and breaking down complex topics into compelling stories for the everyday reader. In the future, she hopes to continue covering science news in a captivating and comprehensive way, while also exploring other avenues in journalism. During her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, seeing live music, and playing guitar. |
Margot Murphy
Margot Murphy, a second-year journalism major with a psychology minor, is pursuing her passion in photojournalism and video editing. Her experience at Huntington News, Wolverine Packing Company and freelance photography emboldens her to tell personable, heartwarming stories. She one day hopes her visual storytelling inspires viewers. Hailing from Michigan, Margot spends her time listening to music and ballroom dancing. |
Ariya Patel
Ariya Patel is a second-year honors student studying communications and media screen studies. She is passionate about storytelling through video production and photography. Ariya has worked at Boston’s City Hall in the Civic Engagement Department, representing her community and raising awareness about issues affecting youth across the city. In addition, she is a member of the Northeastern University Undergraduate Association, NU Utsav, and dances with Northeastern University’s Raas and Garba team, Nakraas, paying homage to her Gujarati culture. In the future, she hopes to create multimedia content for fashion companies and magazines. In her free time, Ariya enjoys dancing, fashion design, and exploring new cuisines! |

Pedro Portela is a fourth-year international affairs major with a minor in business strategy. He is interested in covering border politics and international migration. Additionally, he is also passionate about sustainable business practices and social enterprises. He currently works at Warburg Pincus LLC, a private equity firm based in New York City, where he hopes to build a career in Latin American deals & acquisitions. Diana Sanchez
Diana Sanchez (she/her) is a fourth-year english major with minors in rhetoric & writing, which she uses to fuel her commitment for the continuous advocacy towards diversifying literature. Diana currently works at The Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service as an managing editor for the Pensive Journal. Originally from Mexico and raised in Chicago, Diana is passionate about bringing forth her culture in every room she steps into through storytelling. Everest Saric is a second-year majoring in business and communications with a minor in journalism. Originally from New Jersey, she is half Ecuadorian and half Croatian. Everest is interested in working in marketing and public relations, and she enjoys telling stories about sports and travel. Sean Wilson
Sean Wilson is a fourth-year communication studies major at Northeastern University, with minors in marketing and media production. He is an active member of NUTV, Northeastern’s Video Production club, where he has written, directed, and edited many short films. He aspires to work as a creative in the TV and film industry. This upcoming fall he is co-oping at Wavelength Production in New York City as a production assistant. Professor Mike Beaudet
Mike Beaudet is a broadcast journalist who has worked in television for more than 30 years. He is a Professor of the Practice in Video Innovation at Northeastern University and an Investigative Reporter at WCVB-TV in Boston. Beaudet has won numerous awards, including 21 New England Emmys. His research at Northeastern focuses on the future of video storytelling with an emphasis on engaging younger audiences to help strengthen democracy. |
Professor Monica Canavan
Monica Canavan hails from Lima, Peru and has had a great deal of experience teaching in her native country. Prior to joining Northeastern University as a Principal Lecturer in Spanish, she designed and taught courses for the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University graduate students, and former Boston Red Sox Manager Terry Francona, among many others. Canavan has a passion for teaching and makes sure that students have fun while learning the Spanish language and the Latino culture. |

Des LaFave is the program assistant for the Video Storytelling and Peruvian Culture dialogue. He graduated from Northeastern University with a BA in Journalism and Media & Screen Studies in 2023.
